Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, Matthew Guy was today joined by Liberal Member for Southern Metropolitan Region, Georgie Crosier, and Liberal candidate for Albert Park Shannon Eeles to announce $500,000 in Victorian Coalition Government’s funding for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness to upgrade the kitchen at their Albert Park temple.

Mr Guy said the new funding is part of a $6 million boost for multicultural community centres from the Victorian Coalition Government’s two-year Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund. “The Victorian Coalition Government is investing $500,000 to upgrade the Hare Krishna Centre which provides great services for the community in Albert Park. The improved kitchen will ensure the Society can continue its wonderful work feeding the homeless and disadvantaged people in the area,” Mr Guy said. Ms Crosier said the funding will provide much needed assistance to ensure the International Society for Krishna Consciousness can continue to meet the changing needs of the community.

“The Society is well-established in the area and currently delivers essential support, not only for Victoria’s growing Hindu population, but the broader community,” Ms Crosier said. “I’m pleased it will be able to expand its services with the upgrade to this fantastic welcoming centre.”

The project is one of the 28 community centres or cultural precincts that will be constructed or upgraded as part of the $6 million Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund. “Cultural centres and precincts are the very heart and soul of our community, which is why it is essential they are accessible and kept in good condition,” Mr Guy said.

“The Napthine Government recognises that community organisations need our support to ensure they can continue to deliver services to their communities. I look forward to working in partnership with local community groups across Victoria to ensure our culturally diverse population can enjoy fantastic facilities like the Krishna Society Kitchen.”
