In ODI rankings, India has risen to No. 1 position and Australia capsized to fourth place after their defeat to Zimbabwe which has been lifted to No. 10 under the captainship of Elton Chigumbura. World champions India have retained their position in the Reliance ICC ODI Team Ranking after the series against England and the triangular series in Zimbabwe.
India topped after the 4th ODI in Nottingham against England but lost the fifth at Headingley.
“It was important to do well in the ODIs and we did do that” said Dhoni. He added, “It’s important to learn from what we experienced here, at home to the West Indies and in Australia”
Earlier England captain, Eoin Morgan said, “It is hugely important. In the one-day series our senior players including myself didn’t stand up, which made things really difficult. To lead from the front myself was the way it should be done.”
It looked as if India would finish the series with a triumph but England humiliated India when India had a chase of 181to win in the lone T20 International. India finished on 177 for five. Dhoni finished on 27 not out, couldn’t hit the required boundary whereas stand-in skipper Morgan made 71 off just 31 balls, including three Fours and seven Sixes in a total of 180 for seven.
India has to work hard on T20s as Dhoni said they have to learn from their England experience. England on the other hand will be satisfied till the International summer but there is a lot to do in ODI cricket for the World Cup next year.
